Toyota Platinum Etios, Etios Liva, And Etios Cross Will Not Survive The BS6 Deadline

The Maruti Suzuki-based Glanza will be Toyota’s entry-level offering in the BS6 era
Toyota India plans to discontinue the Etios, Etios Cross, and Etios Liva in India. The carmaker stopped production of the Etios family in January and has no plans to update the models to comply with the upcoming BS6 norms. After nearly a decade of being Toyota’s most affordable cars in India, the Etios family will be replaced with cars from the company’s joint venture with Maruti Suzuki.
The Etios family collectively has three BS4 engines on offer - a 1.2-litre 80PS-104Nm petrol, 1.5-litre 90PS-132Nm petrol, and a 1.4-litre 68PS-170Nm diesel. The Etios sedan is available with the latter two engines, while the Etios Liva has the 1.2 petrol and 1.4-litre diesel. The Etios Cross is offered with all three engines.
Toyota’s Etios sedan debuted at the end of 2010 and neither the sedan nor its hatchback siblings have enjoyed roaring sales. Sales numbers since August 2019 show that the Glanza outsells each of the three models even if it isn’t as popular as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The change to BS6 was the last nail in the Etios’ coffin.
Toyota’s joint venture with Maruti Suzuki will spawn three other rebadged models, an MPV based on the Ertiga, SUV based on the Vitara Brezza, and a sedan based on the Ciaz.
