UPDATE: Toyota has launched the Vellfire premium MPV from Rs 79.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota’s Vellfire luxury MPV, which is set to be launched on February 26, is the Japanese carmaker’s take on the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. We recently drove the premium MPV in Bengaluru and came away quite impressed. The Vellfire will be available with a single hybrid powertrain option and will be offered in one variant called the Executive Lounge. Here’s all you need to know ahead of its launch:
Middle Row Experience:
Being a luxury MPV, let’s start with the Vellfire’s middle row experience, which is nothing short of exquisite. The occupants are greeted to two thrones with powered reclining function, an electronic footrest and a manual fore-aft slide function. Is it a very hot day outside? Well, the Vellfire comes with ventilated seats and if the climate becomes cold and gloomy, you can heat them up too. Quite cool, eh? We hoped Toyota also threw in massaging seats to complete the package.
Other features include electric sliding rear doors, sunblinds and an entertainment screen with HDMI and WiFi support.
Interior Design:

The dashboard design of the Vellfire can be termed as simple and minimalistic. The central console comes with a large touchscreen infotainment screen flanked by vertically mounted AC vents.
In terms of features, the Vellfire comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tri-zone climate control, dual sunroof, cruise control, LED headlamps with DRLs, a 17-speaker JBL sound system, ambient lighting as well as all the luxury amenities mentioned above. Safety features include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake with auto-hold function as well as a tyre pressure monitor.
Exterior Design:
The exterior design of the Vellfire looks like a typical MPV with straight lines and attention-grabbing details. The chrome-laden grille along with the split LED headlamps adds bling to the front end. In profile, highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels finished in gunmetal shade. Meanwhile, the rear end comes with funky LED tail lamps and a giant chrome strip.
Engine Options:
The Vellfire will be available with a single 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain option. The ICE motor develops 115PS of power and 198Nm. This motor is paired with two electric motors that sit at either axle. The electric motor at the front develops 142PS while the rear unit puts out 68PS. The combined output is said to be around 197PS of power. Its battery pack is a self-charging unit and replenishes itself during deceleration and braking. The Vellfire has a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.35kmpl.
Prices and Rivals:
The Toyota Vellfire is expected to be priced from Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz V-Class.
