The new HWA AG-sourced 6.0-litre V12 engine produces 850PS and 750Nm, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox.
Performance is thanks to active suspension, active aero, carbon ceramic brakes, and GT3-inspired Pirelli tyres.
A new carbon-titanium monocoque chassis makes the Huayra R a featherweight at 1050kg.
The bolder hood vents, roof scoop, and massive rear wing are all inspired by racing prototypes from the 60s and 70s.
Only 30 units will be produced.
Italian carmaker Pagani is known for crafting niche and extreme supercars. Think Zonda and the Huayra. Well, more than a decade after the Huayra debuted in 2011, the carmaker has decided to go all out with the track-focused Huayra R. And like the Zonda R, Pagani has pulled no punches in making the Huayra a no-frills supercar exclusive to the racetrack.
While the original Huayra had an AMG-sourced 6.0-litre V12 engine, the Huayra R gets an all-new 6.0-litre V12 engine in collaboration with HWA AG, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. It makes 850PS of power and 750Nm of torque, with a screaming redline at 9,000rpm. Interestingly, the carmaker claims the V12 will sound like the F1 cars from the 80s.
This brute of an engine is mounted on a new carbon-titanium monocoque chassis, and power is distributed to the rear wheels via a new six-speed sequential gearbox. An active suspension and two (rotating) aero fins at the rear help generate up to an earth-shattering 1000kg of downforce. Pagani has also slapped on some Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and GT3-inspired Pirelli slicks wrapped around 19-inch wheels for better handling prowess. The result? The car’s a featherweight, tipping the scales at only 1050kg.
The Huayra R is a fast machine without any of the mad add-ons usually present in modern-day supercars. Inspired by the 60s and 70s’ racing prototypes, the Huayra R gets a roof scoop, bold vents on the bonnet, new side air intakes, and air vents on the wheel arches. The rear is as extreme as it gets, with a massive diffuser complemented by a large rear wing and sleek tail lights.
Considering it is a track-focused model, the Huayra R meets all FIA GT safety standards with its full-body roll cage, fire extinguishers, and fire-resistant seats with a six-point harness. There’s also traction control and ABS for improved driver-assistance.
The Pagani Huayra R will be a rare gem, with only 30 units to be ever produced. Each will cost a sky-high 2.6 million Euros (that’s nearly Rs 22.48 crore).
