Triumph has launched the new Bonneville T100 in India for Rs 7.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Bonneville T100 is the third offering under the Bonneville family for our two-wheeler market, after the Street Twin and the T120. The new motorcycle had recently made its debut at the 2016 INTERMOT motorcycle show in Germany.
With respect to styling, the new Bonneville T100 carries forward the iconic styling of the original Bonneville that debuted in 1959. The signature 14.5-litre capacity fuel tank has been retained, which should please the Bonneville loyalists. The instrument console is a twin-pod unit while the bolt-on Triumph badges look cool. While it might look retro from the outside, underneath lies a modern motorcycle with updated chassis, cycle parts, and a new mill which is Euro 4 emission norms-compliant. The bike will be offered in three shades of blue, orange and black. Service interval for the bike has also been increased from 9,656km to 16,000km.
The new Triumph Bonneville T100 is powered by a 900cc, parallel-twin motor that delivers 55PS at 5,900rpm and 80Nm of peak torque that is made available at just 3,230rpm. The powerplant is the same unit as found on the Street Twin and power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. The new motorcycle also gets a shorter wheelbase and rake and trail, which should improve its handling dynamics. The saddle height has also been reduced to make it more accessible to shorter riders while the new Bonneville T100 rides on custom-developed Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres. It gets equipped with electronic goodies like traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, an LED rear light and engine immobiliser. Braking is done by disc brakes on both ends while ABS is standard. Internationally, the Bonneville T100 is offered in two variants but the T100 Black isn’t offered to us. The Triumph Bonneville will compete against the Ducati Scrambler in our two-wheeler space.
