Triumph Motorcycles will launch the new Tiger Explorer in India tomorrow. The new motorcycle was first unveiled at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle and will be the most powerful and advanced offering in the Tiger adventure range of motorcycles. Cosmetic updates on the new Triumph Tiger Explorer are restricted as engineers have focussed their attention on making the new bike Euro 4 emission norm compliant and adding electronic goodies to the bike. Like the Triumph Tiger 800 range, the new Tiger Explorer is offered in eight variants in the international market - XR, XRx Low, XRx, XRt, XC, XCx, XCx Low and the XCa.We aren’t sure how many variants will come to India, but we can at least expect the Explorer XC and XR to be launched here.
Powering the Triumph Tiger Explorer is a new 1215cc triple-cylinder motor that is Euro 4-compliant and delivers 139PS at 9300rpm and 123Nm of peak torque at 6200rpm, which is a hike of 2PS and 2Nm when compared to the older motor. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via 6-speed transmission. Talking about electronics, the XCx, XCa, XRx and XRt variants get equipped with five ride modes, semi-active suspension, switchable ABS, cornering ABS and traction control along with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). The base Tiger Explorer XR and XC feature standard multi-channel switchable ABS and traction control but lack other electronic wizardry like its siblings. The new Triumph bike will compete against the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the BMW R 1200 GS. Talking about price, we expect the Triumph Tiger Explorer to be priced around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant.
