In terms of looks and design, the new Scooty Zest does get some style and design upgrades with a revised front and rear end.
The front fascia has the familiar Scooty look which has evolved over the years since the first TVS Scooty was launched in the 1990s, but with a snazzier bigger headlamp, new indicators and the TVS logo boldly sitting on the two-tone front apron.
It gets a larger contoured head lamp with a new instrument panel and a white back-lit unit with an odometer and fuel gauge. The seat is also broader now and the body panels look freshly accented along with a new rear end sporting a LED tail-light and an upmarket grab rail. It now gets a broader and longer double stitched seat, telescopic front suspension and hydraulic rear monoshock rear spring suspension. The TVS Scooty Zest 110 gets best-in-class underseat storage capacity of 19litres.
Other features include a parking brake, TVS patented EaZy centre stand, auto choke and easy kick start. The new Scooty Zest 110 is available in five exciting metallic colours - brilliant turquoise blue, volcano red, black, pearl white and metallic pink.
Where the upgrade is significant is the engine - the Scooty Zest now gets a four-stroke 109.7 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled and carbureted engine which churns out peak power of 8PS@7500rpm and maximum torque of 8.7Nm@5500rpm. It's the same engine as the Wego and Jupiter's but has been mildly tweaked for the Scooty Zest.
TVS Motor Company claims fuel consumption figures of 62kmpl. With its refreshed styling and upgraded engine, the Scooty Zest is certainly going to attract buyers, particularly from the fairer sex, which has always favoured the TVS Scooty, right from its first launch in the 1990s.
Today however, there is far more competition in the ungeared scooter market and the Scooty Zest will have to take on the likes of Honda Activa, Suzuki Let's and Yamaha Ray. Yes, TVS in a way, pioneered the ungeared scooter target specifically at college-going girls and working women. At this price, it's fairly competitive and no doubt will attract buyers. The ungeared scooter segment has evolved many fold over the past 20 years since the first TVS Scooty made its debut and went on to become a very popular scooter in its heyday. This time however, it remains to be seen how it fares against the segment leaders, led by the ubiquitous Honda Activa.
