Gets a couple of extra features including a segment-first LED headlight.
Claimed to be 15 per cent more fuel efficient thanks to fuel injection.
Updates amount to a price hike of up to Rs 8,532.
TVS Motors has launched the 2020 Star City Plus, adding to its BS6 fleet of motorcycles which includes the Apache RTR 160 4V and 200 4V. It’s available in two variants, Monotone and Dual-tone, priced at Rs 62,034 and Rs 62,534 (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. That’s a price hike of Rs 8,532 and Rs 7,500 over their respective BS4 counterparts. What this gets you is extra features, a fuel-injected engine and minor design revisions.
The crux of the matter lies in the 109.7cc engine. Fuel injected and having traded in performance for efficiency, it now claims 15 per cent better fuel-efficiency and makes 8.19PS at 7,350rpm and 8.7Nm at 4,500rpm. That's 0.21PS less at 350 revs higher than the BS4 model. Though its torque output remains unchanged at 8.7Nm, it’s produced 500 revs lower than the previous-gen model. The motor works in conjunction with a 4-speed transmission.
In terms of features, the TVS Star City Plus comes equipped with a full LED headlight (segment-first) and a USB mobile charging port next to the semi-digital instrument console. Adding to its style quotient is a premium dual-tone seat. The front fascia has been redesigned for a sportier look, and that’s about it.
It uses the same suspension setup as before -- a telescopic front fork and a twin shock setup at the rear with 5 steps of adjustability. Synchronized braking now comes as standard with a 130mm drum brake up front and a 110mm drum unit at the rear. It retains the same tyres as the previous-gen model. All said and done, the updates have led to the bike gaining 7kg over the BS4 model which tipped the scales at 109kg.
The TVS Star City Plus BS6 competes against the Hero Splendor iSmart BS6, the soon to be updated Bajaj Discover 110 and Honda Dream Yuga.
