Skoda has revealed the design sketch of the upcoming 2019 Superb, which will make its global debut at 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia, on May 23. The updated Superb is most likely to be launched in India by the end of this year.

From the sketches, what stands out the most are the sharp design elements which are in tune with recent Skoda models and concepts. The updated LED headlamps look upmarket with the revised bumpers that also incorporate the sleek fog lamps. Both the fog lamps are connected together with a chrome strip that runs along the bumper. The grille is unmistakably Skoda and clad in chrome all throughout.

No other sketches of the upcoming sedan were revealed by the Czech brand, but the car was spied multiple times in various parts of Europe and we have had a good look at the car, helping us learn some important details. The side profile is most likely to be similar to the existing car, while the rear end now gets revamped tail lamps. A new set of alloy wheels, which will most likely make its way into production, can also be seen in the leaked images. Inside, things are more or less expected to be similar, but a virtual cockpit akin to the ones in modern Audis, which also debuted in the Octavia( L&K trim) along with a 360-degree camera, can be expected.

The Superb currently is available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that churns out 177PS of power and 350Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic. The 1.8-litre petrol, on the other hand, makes 180PS and 320Nm mated to a 6-speed manual. The same engine is also available in a lower state of tune in the lower variants, which puts out 180PS and 250Nm coupled with a 7-speed DSG.

Skoda is most likely to launch the Superb facelift in India later this year, with powerplants that are BS6-complaint. Markets abroad will also get an extra variant in the form of a plug-in hybrid. The existing Superb is priced from Rs 26 lakh to Rs 33.5 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India) and the facelifted Superb is expected to come at a premium over its predecessor. Rivals include the likes of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid and the Volkswagen Passat.
