Volkswagen has released a teaser sketch of a new premium four-door coupe, christened as the ‘Arteon.’ The car will make its public debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. It will be positioned above the Passat in the product portfolio and replace the outgoing CC sedan that is currently sold in the international market. The new model hints its possibility of being pitched to become the flagship sedan in the VW range. As per the company, with the name ‘Arteon,’ the first part ‘Art’ describes the ‘harmonious lines and emotionality’ of the car while the ‘eon’ could be related to a premium model, like the Phideon that VW sells in the Chinese market.
With the Arteon, the German manufacturer is likely to start with a new horizontally accentuated brand image. The car will sport a sleek front fascia with the slats on the grille extending into the 3D LED headlamps. The roof gets a sloping design giving it a more coupe-like profile. The door will come with frameless windows, while at the rear it will feature a top-hinged boot for easy access. The tail lamps will feature a wraparound design with LED units.
Speaking on the design of the Arteon, exterior designer Tobias Sühlmann, said, “At first sight, the Arteon arouses enthusiasm through its expressive design. It then surprises through its practical virtues. This combination is unique.”
Further details of the new Volkswagen Arteon will be available once the car makes debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
