It's been a while since Volkswagen enjoyed some form of success in the Indian car market. That's mostly because of its ageing product lineup and the lack of updates. However, all that is set to change soon as VW is set to showcase four new SUVs at Auto Expo 2020. Further, three of them will be launched in India by 2021. Here’s what these SUVs could be:
The T-Roc will be a premium midsize SUV that’ll rival the Jeep Compass and Skoda Karoq when launched in India. It will initially be available with a 1.5-litre TSI engine that’s good for 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. A 2.0-litre TDI engine could join the party later. The T-Roc will be brought to India via the CBU route. So expect it to be priced from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Allspace is essentially the 7-seater version of Tiguan. Since it has been spotted on our roads plenty of times, we know that it will feature a revamped design when compared to the Tiguan that’s currently on sale in the country. What’s more, it could even be offered in a sportier R-line trim. It’ll be offered with a 2.0-litre TSI engine that’s good for 190PS and 320Nm. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG. Expect prices for the Tiguan Allspace to start from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).

The third SUV that’s set to make its Auto Expo debut will bear resemblance with the T-Cross. It’ll be based on VW’s India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform. This SUV will sit below the T-Roc and go up against the Kia Seltos, 2020 Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and the Skoda Vision IN. We expect it to be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI engine that’s good for 115PS and 200Nm. A more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine could be offered at a later stage. We expect this SUV to hit our roads in 2021 and prices could start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volkswagen ID Crozz:
While we weren’t expecting VW to showcase any EVs at the Auto Expo, the carmaker’s recent teaser suggests that it could showcase the VW ID Crozz (ID.4) concept. VW’s second all-electric model in the ID range develops 306PS of power and is capable of travelling upto 500km on a single charge (NEDC claimed). Considering that VW is showcasing the concept at the event, will we see the ID.4 ply on our roads in the near future? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?
These are the four new SUVs that will be showcased by VW at Auto Expo 2020. Which of the upcoming VW SUV are you waiting for? Let us know in the comments section below.
