Volkswagen car owners, admit it: servicing your VW ain’t cheap. Replacing the timing belt in a Vento 1.6 TDI will set you back by around Rs 20,000 while a new clutch, including the flywheel, will cost a similar amount. Then there’s periodic maintenance, which could range anywhere between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 depending on the model. But things are about to change as Volkswagen India is looking to make the cost of ownership more affordable. Here’s the expected price drop in different categories:
Category |
Expected Price Drop |
Parts |
By up to 13 percent |
Oil for petrol models |
By 32 percent |
Service Packages |
By 23 percent |
The table is self-explanatory, but surprisingly, VW has decided to reduce prices only of the petrol-spec engine oil. The diesel engine oil sees no price cut.
Volkswagen is also looking to spruce up its after sales experience. For instance, any issues with your car will be discussed over a video call and the part will be replaced only after you give the green signal. The carmaker will also sell child parts (smaller components of an assembly) which could drastically reduce overall costs.
It’s quite evident that Volkswagen wants to improve its after sales before the Taigun hits showroom floors by Diwali. Speaking about Taigun, the upcoming SUV will boast up to 95 percent localisation and we expect spares and service to be on the nominal side. You can read about the Taigun here. The German carmaker’s next big launch will be the facelifted Tiguan 5-seater and you can read more about it here.
