With the onset of the new year, Volkswagen has announced today that it will be unveiling three new vehicles at the forthcoming 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo 2016. All three cars - Indian Compact Sedan, Tiguan, and Passat GTE - will belong to different segments, and will display a combination of innovative technology and safety features the company has to offer in its new offerings.
Indian Compact Sedan: One of the most awaited vehicles from the German manufacturer, the sub 4-metre sedan codenamed ‘Indian Compact Sedan’ (ICS) will make its international premiere at the Delhi Auto Expo. The ICS has been designed indigenously keeping the Indian market in consideration. With the sub 4-metre segment receiving a warm response from aspiring buyers in India, the ICS is Volkswagen’s answer to the bandwagon. The ICS will be manufactured at the Volkswagen’s Chakan production facility.
Passat GTE: Going hybrid, Volkswagen will be showcasing the Passat GTE which combines the efficiency of an electric engine with the power of a combustion engine. The Passat GTE will be powered by a frugal 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine churning out 156PS of power, and mated to an electric motor. Both the power sources together combine to produce 218 PS of power providing the Passat GTE with a driving range of over 1,000kms. In pure electric mode, range of 50kms can be achieved from the plug-in hybrid Passat GTE. The Passat GTE will also depict what the new Passat will look when launched soon in India.
Tiguan: Performing impressively in the European market, the Tiguan will make its display at the Volkswagen stall in Delhi. The Tiguan is a compact SUV which is again a trending segment in the Indian automotive industry. Apart from the standard two-wheel drive, the international model of the Tiguan is equipped with optional 4-wheel drive.
Commenting on the announcement, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We are delighted to showcase our enlarged product portfolio for the Indian market at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, and believe in the potential that each of these carlines hold for this market. With this dynamic product offering, we would also like to re-iterate our firm commitment to the Indian consumer. The Indian Compact Sedan, our made-in-India and made-for-India carline is a truly special offering from the Volkswagen stable with all the brand values of best in class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience, and is expected to be a game-changer for us.”
“The premium SUV, Tiguan, yet another highly anticipated product is being showcased, keeping in mind the accelerated growth of the segment that it would be operating in. We will also be introducing the New Passat to the Indian market in 2016. Through the showcase of Passat GTE –we have an opportunity to highlight Volkswagen’s environmentally responsible plug-in hybrid technology. Our dynamic line-up comprising the Indian Compact Sedan, Tiguan, and Passat, recently launched 21st Century Beetle is certain to make Volkswagen among the most interesting brands to watch out for at the Delhi Auto Expo, and we look forward to yet another successful edition, at the exposition.” he further added.
