It will be the second SUV after the Skoda Kushaq to be based on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform.
Will feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, digital instrument cluster and a single-pane sunroof.
Will be powered by 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI EVO petrol engines with manual and automatic transmission options.
Will rival the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and Kia Seltos.
Volkswagen has announced that the Taigun will go into production on August 18, 2021. And we reckon the compact SUV will go on sale towards the end of next month.
It is the second SUV after the Skoda Kushaq to be based on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform. Therefore, expect its dimensions to be similar to the latter. For reference, the made-in-India Kushaq is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, and 1,612mm tall. It has a 2,651mm long wheelbase. Fortunately, the Taigun will retain most of what made the concept stand out at Auto Expo 2020. These include plenty of chrome inserts, a Tiguan-like front end, and connected LED taillights. The carmaker is also offering a sportier GT Line trim.
Inside, the Taigun will borrow the Kushaq’s 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, gear lever, and touch-based climate controls. But the VW SUV has an integrated infotainment setup instead of the Skoda’s floating unit. Then, there’s the digital driver display, which isn’t present in the Kushaq.
Other features will include a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charger, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Passenger safety should be covered by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rearview camera, and an electronic stability program.
Powering the compact SUV will be two petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI (making 115PS and 175Nm) and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO (pushing out 150PS and 250Nm). Both engines will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The automatic options are a 6-speed AT for the 1.0-litre unit and a 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre engine.
Select dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings for a token of Rs 10,000. The compact SUV will likely be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.
