Volkswagen India has officially commenced series production of its soon-to-be-launched compact SUV, the Taigun. Bookings are officially open and you can reserve it via the official website or your closest dealer for a token of Rs 25,000. The launch is expected to happen soon as VW will begin deliveries in September 2021.
The Taigun will be Volkswagen’s first made-in-India compact SUV. Based on the MQB A0-IN platform, the Taigun is essentially a Skoda Kushaq with Volkswagen’s top hat. It will be offered with multiple trims to make it a tempting prospect. The 1-litre turbo-petrol engine will be limited to the standard trims while the larger 1.5-litre unit will be limited to the GT. And to lure buyers to pick the larger engine, the GT will be offered in multiple variants: manual (GT) and automatic (GT+).
Volkswagen will also cram the SUV with plenty of features such as a 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a single-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, climate control, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, and cruise control.
Passenger safety is taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with rear-view camera, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
As mentioned, the Taigun will be offered with two turbo-petrol engines: a 1-litre three-cylinder and 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. The latter also comes with cylinder deactivation tech, shutting down two cylinders under light load to improve fuel economy.
