When will it be launched?
May 24, 2017.
Update: Volkswagen Tiguan SUV Launched At Rs 27.98 Lakh!
What's the expected price?
We expect the Volkswagen Tiguan to be priced from Rs 25.99 lakh to Rs 27.99 lakh, ex-showroom
What else can I get for the same price?
Diesel SUVs/Crossovers in the price range include the Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Tucson, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Isuzu mu-X. The only direct competition for the Tiguan is the Hyundai Tucson.
The upcoming Jeep Compass will also be pitted against the Tiguan when it is launched in August 2017.
How many variants of the Tiguan will be available?
Volkswagen will offer the Tiguan in two variants - Comfortline and Highline.
What engine, transmission and drive options are available?
Only one engine, transmission and drive option will be on offer, regardless of the variant. The Volkswagen Tiguan will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor paired to a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission). The 2.0-litre diesel motor could be offered in either of two power tunes - 150PS/340Nm or 177PS/350Nm. No manual transmission will be offered.
Both the variants of the Tiguan in India will be offered with a '4Motion' AWD system as standard. The 4Motion AWD system will be offered with off-road modes - On-Road, Snow and Ice, Off-Road and Off-Road Individual.
What other features does the Tiguan get?
Some of the highlights include LED headlamps, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver's seats, 3-zone climate control with AC vents for rear passengers, ambient lighting, electrically opening/closing tailgate, panoramic sunroof, self-sealing tyres (tyre's inside coated with viscous material, damage of up to 5mm in diameter is sealed automatically), etc.
The differentiating factor between the Comfortline and Highline are minimal. The Comfortline gets 17-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the Highline gets 18-inch alloy wheels, illuminated front scuff plates, panoramic sunroof, darkened taillamps, ambient lighting, electric tailgate, keyless entry with push-button start, self-sealing tyres and a reverse parking camera over the Comfortline variant.
What does the Tiguan feel like?
Our spy reports that the Tiguan has fantastic quality inside and out. The steering wheel is the same unit as the Jetta, is good to hold and has buttons for the cruise control on the steering wheel itself. Physically, the second row of the crossover is really spacious, but all black interiors make it feel claustrophobic. The rear seats split in 40:20:40 ratio which makes the storage space very versatile. The electrically operated tailgate hides a huge luggage compartment, the spare wheel is a steel unit.
The tyres on the Highline version are 235/55 R18 Ventus S1 Evo 2 from Hankook, and have a special tyre sealant material inside which can plug small punctures by itself.
