Hot Volvo S60 Polestar armed with 515PS of power trumps its main rivals, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and BMW M5
Volvo S60 Polestar

Polestar has recently revealed their latest creation, a pumped up Volvo S60. Badged as the Volvo S60 Polestar, the hardcore S60 will sport the same ‘T6’ 3.0 litre inline six cylinder petrol engine albeit with a Garret 3171 turbocharger strapped onto it. The end result is 515PS of power and 575Nm if torque. This means the Volvo S60 Polestar top trumps both its main rivals, the BMW M3 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

0-100 km/h comes in at 3.9 seconds and top speed is said to be on the magical side of 300 km/h. The rather excellent engine is mated to a proper six-speed close-ratio manual gearbox that sends power to a Haldex all-wheel drive system for superior traction, there is even a Haldex limited-slip differential between the rear wheels.

Modifications to the six cylinder engine include modified cylinder heads, combustion chambers, inlet manifold, air intake, specially manufactured conrods and a 3.5 inch Ferrita stainless steel exhaust to add to the going power of the vehicle.

The chassis has been lowered by 30mm, it has also been tweaked and made more taut while the brakes have been made bigger with 6 piston Polestar-Brembo callipers at the front and Polestar-Volvo calipers at the back with ventilated discs. There are bigger anti-roll bars and Ohlins 3- way shock absorbers. The car’s Track width has been increased 20mm at the front and 40mm at the rear.

The car also gets reworked aerodynamics that adds a front splitter and a bigger rear spoiler for added downforce and a carbon fibre air diffuser. The body of the car has been widened by 20mm to deal with the added fury under the bonnet.

S60 Polestar

The Volvo S60 Polestar is not the first bonkers car from the Swedes. Not too long ago Polestar took a Volvo C30 hatchback and managed to make its 2.5 litre petrol engine develop 410PS of power. That made it the world’s most powerful hatchback. Sadly however, Volvo never put the car into production.

This time though, the Volvo S60 Polestar built to evaluate the racing capabilities of the S60 has been sold to one of the most enthusiastic bidders for the Volvo C30 Polestar for $300,000 (Rs. 1.71 crore). That’s a lot to pay for a sports sedan but its performance is right up there with some of the best sportscars on the road.

And that’s not all, there is better news! Volvo has come to an understanding that if there is enough demand for the car they will consider putting the S60 Polestar into production.

Petrolheads of the world take notice!
