  • The XC40 was originally priced at Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in the sole R-Design variant.

  • It sports a short and stout stance with a flat bonnet and squared off pillars making it look like a proper SUV.

  • It also features premium equipment like a 9.0-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging.

  • Is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 190PS/300Nm.

  • Rivals the likes of the BMW X1, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA and 2020 Audi Q3.

Volvo’s entry-level SUV, the XC40, has just gotten more affordable as the carmaker is offering a discount worth Rs 3 lakh via its ‘Hassle-Free Offer’. This means that instead of the original Rs 39.90 lakh price tag, the XC40 now costs Rs 36.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in the sole R-Design variant. Aside from this, the carmaker is also bundling in complimentary accessories worth Rs 1 lakh, taking the effective price to Rs 35.90 lakh. There is a catch for this price though: it is a limited time offer.

The XC40 certainly stands out amongst other SUVs in its segment with a short and stout stance, flat bonnet and squared off pillars that give off a proper SUV design philosophy unlike its bigger siblings. Highlights include signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlamps, studded grille, waterfall taillamps, glossy black inserts all over and a set of 18-inch 5 double-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Head inside and the XC40 is just as funky as on the outside with R-design leather upholstery. Notable features include a 9.0-inch Sensus touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, vertical A/C vents, panoramic sunroof, dual zone electronic climate control, wireless phone charging and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. It also features unique safety tech like lane assist, adaptive cruise control and pilot assist.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 190PS of outright grunt and 300Nm of twist. Paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a front-wheel drivetrain, the petrol-powered XC40 tops out at 230kmph. Nope, there’s no diesel engine on offer.

In global markets, Volvo has already unveiled the all-electric iteration of the XC40. There’s no word on when it’ll make it to India, but expect a long wait. It rivals the likes of the BMW X1, as well as the upcoming 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA and 2020 Audi Q3.
