Yamaha India has gone big and bold with the introduction of the Aerox 155 into the premium Indian scooter segment. It shares its engine with the YZF-R15 Version 4.0 which was also lauched earlier today. Here’s what the Aerox 155 is about:
What's Its Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The Yamaha Aerox 155 has been priced at Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This sporty maxi-scooter doesn’t have a direct rival in our market, but the Aprilia SXR 160 comes quite close.
What's New?
Even though Yamaha India is calling it a maxi-scooter, the Aerox is more of a sporty scooter that’s halfway between a step-through and a scooter. It has a sharp face with twin LED headlamps. It doesn’t have a flared apron or lots of edgy body panels. The tail section is wide and looks quite spacious.

You cannot expect the same levels of storage space on the Aerox as a traditional scooter. The step in the floor means no chance of carrying groceries, and even underseat storage is limited.
Yamaha has equipped the Aerox 155 with features like a 5.8-inch LCD instrument console, complete with bluetooth connectivity, a multi function key slot, an external fuel lid, a USB charging port in the front glove box, an idle start-stop system and a smart motor generator that ensures silent starts.
Powering the Aerox 155 is the R15 v3-derived 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve engine, which makes 15PS and 13.9Nm in this guise. It is 3.25PS and 0.3Nm lower than the R15 v3 but that's still enough to make it the most powerful scooter currently in India.
The Aerox 155 is sprung on a telescopic fork and twin shocks, and runs on large 14-inch wheels with a front disc/rear drum setup as standard. Braking is bolstered by the presence of single-channel ABS.

Yamaha’s Aerox 155 could be the start of larger displacement scooters getting more importance in the country from established two-wheeler manufacturers. The scooter’s arrival has been years in the making but better late than never, right? At Rs 1.29 lakh, the Yamaha Aerox is an interesting proposition, considering that the Aprilia SXR 160, which packs less performance and features is mere Rs 2,000 less than the Yamaha.
