Yamaha’s finally bringing its A-game to the Indian market. The R15 V4 is one heck of a proposition, but so is the newly launched Aerox 155. It’s sporty, feature-packed and looks like nothing we’ve seen before in the Indian two-wheeler segment. We’ve compiled a number of detailed images to get you up to speed with what the scooter has to offer.
The Aerox targets millennials, or Gen Z if you may, with its striking design language. It’s as sporty as they come. The step-through format is a first for the Indian scooter segment
Feature-wise, the Aerox 155 gets an LED headlight, LED tail light, fairing-integrated turn indicators upfront and bulb-type winkers at the rear.
Aside from this, you have a 5.8-inch LCD instrument console, complete with Bluetooth connectivity, a multi-function key slot, an external fuel lid, a USB charging port in the front glove box, an idle start-stop system and a smart motor generator that ensures silent starts.
Powering the Aerox 155 is the R15 v3-derived 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve engine, belting out 15PS of power and 13.9Nm of peak torque. That's 3.25PS and 0.3Nm lower than the R15 v3 but still enough to make it the most powerful scooter currently in India.
The Aerox 155 is sprung on a telescopic fork and twin shocks, and runs on large 14-inch wheels. Braking duties are handled by a front disc/rear drum setup with the safety net of single-channel ABS.
Its fuel tank can hold up to 5.5 litres of fuel while its segment-leading underseat storage of 24.5 litres is big enough to accommodate a full-face helmet. It also gets a fairly accessible seat height of 790mm.
At Rs 1.29 lakh, the Yamaha Aerox is an interesting proposition, considering that the Aprilia SXR 160, which packs less performance and features is a mere Rs 2,000 less than the Yamaha.
