Yamaha introduced a new variant of the Alpha unisex scooter. The disc brake variant of the Yamaha Alpha scooter has been launched at Rs 52,556 (ex-showroom Delhi). The disc brake variant carries a premium of Rs 2,200 over the dual-tone drum brake variant. The Yamaha Alpha is the second Yamaha scooter offering to get disc brake as an optional extra after the recently launched Ray ZR. Bookings for the Alpha disc brake variant have started at all Yamaha dealerships spread across the country with deliveries starting by end of June onwards. To visually distinguish the disc brake variant it will be offered in two new shades of – Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black.
Commenting on the introduction of the new variant, Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “The scooter market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years and Yamaha has been able to make steady inroad in this segment. Yamaha is looking at reaching a 10% market share by the end of this year and the introduction of this latest variant of the Cygnus Alpha scooter is expected to further propel its growth in the segment. This latest offering with disc brake is aimed at families who want that additional safety feature.”
Apart from the addition of disc brake and two new colour options, the mechanicals and cycle parts remain unchanged on the new scooter. The Yamaha Alpha is powered by a 113cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 7.1PS of power and 8.1Nm of peak torque. The scooter features a fibre body and weighs just 104kg. Talking about fuel efficiency, the Japanese two-wheeler giant claims a mileage figure of 66kmpl for the Alpha. The Alpha has a generous under seat storage of 21 litres which is among the highest in the segment and the scooter runs on tubeless tyres. The solid shade of the Yamaha Alpha has been priced at Rs 49,336 while the dual-tone variant carries a sticker price of Rs 50,339. (All prices are ex-showroom Delhi).
