Yamaha’s upcoming quarter-litre offering, the Fazer 250, has been spotted testing multiple times in India. Now, according to sources, the sporty tourer will enter production in August 2017 and is likely to be launched by October 2017.
The mechanical underpinnings of the Fazer 250 are based on its naked cousin, the Yamaha FZ25. The Fazer 250 comes with a fairing and a windscreen which improves the aerodynamics and reduces rider fatigue. The bike sports a digital instrument cluster which is the same unit as found in the FZ25. Breaking away from the traditional Fazer twin-pod frontal headlight design, the Fazer 250 comes with only a single-pod LED headlight, a la FZ25. The Fazer shares the same 249cc SOHC 2-valve engine as the FZ25. The powerplant produces 20.9PS of power at 8000rpm and 20Nm of torque at 6000rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox, and expect the Fazer to make the same kind of output as the FZ25 does. The bike uses telescopic forks at the front and monoshock at the rear, while braking duties are carried out by a 282mm front and a 220mm rear disc. The alloy wheels are likely to be shod with the same 100-section front and 140-section rear rubber. Expect the bike to weigh slightly more than the FZ25, owing to the additional fairing.
It is speculated that the Yamaha Fazer 250 will command a premium of about Rs 20,000 above the FZ25. ABS is likely to be an optional extra to keep the pricing flexible.
