India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has announced a precautionary recall for two of its motorcycles, the Yamaha FZ 25 and the Yamaha Fazer 25 in India with immediate effect.
This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to Head Cover Bolt loosening in 23,897 motorcycles wherein 21,640 units are FZ 25 and 2,257 units are of the Fazer 25, manufactured from January 2017 onwards.
Thankfully though, the affected motorcycles are going to be repaired at no additional costs and can be done from any of the Yamaha authorized dealerships. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted individually by the company as well.
Since the corrective measures are being taken on an urgent basis, Yamaha is working closely with its dealer partners to ensure that the repairs are done in a hassle free manner in as convenient and efficient way possible.
Both, the Yamaha FZ 25 and Fazer 25 are powered by the same 249cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. There is no difference in power and torque figures either, with the motor producing 20.9PS of peak power at 8000rpm, while 20Nm of peak torque is produced at 6000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox.
That's not all, the mechanical components are also shared by both the motorcycles. Suspension duties up front in taken care of by 41mm telescopic front forks and a hydraulic monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is managed by a 282mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc brake, which is mounted on 17-inch wheels that come wrapped with 110/80 section front tyre and a chunky 140/70 section rear tyre. Both the FZ 25 and the Fazer 25 miss out on the important safety net of ABS, even as an optional extra. As a result of the added fairing, the Fazer 25 carries a kerb weight of 154Kg, which makes it 6Kg heavier than its street-naked sibling the FZ25.
The Yamaha FZ 25 is available for Rs 1.19 lakh and the Fazer 25 is available for a sticker price of Rs 1.22 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
