Yamaha Unveils Next-Gen FZ 25 BS6 And FZS 25 BS6

For 2020, Yamaha’s 250cc motorcycle get a new look and a new premium iteration

Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 And FZS 25 BS6 Unveiled
  • It will be available in two trims FZ 25 and FZS 25.
  • The 2020 model gets new projector headlamp and an engine cowl.
  • The higher-spec FZS 25 gets new colours, a larger windscreen and knuckle guards.

Yamaha has unveiled the FZ 25 BS6 as well as the all-new FZS 25 for 2020. Yamaha has gone down the same path as its FZ-FI and FZS-FI motorcycles and is offering the 250cc motorcycle in two variants. While the FZ 25 will go on sale in April, the more premium FZS 25 will be available later this year.

For 2020, the FZ 25 BS6 gets a new headlamp with a new bi-LED projector setup. This should solve one of its predecessor’s major drawbacks of poor headlamp throw. In addition to this, the FZ 25 BS6 gets a new engine cowl and two new colours: Metallic Black and Racing Blue. Features include a negative LCD instrument console and a side stand with engine cut-off switch.

Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 And FZS 25 BS6 Unveiled

On the more premium FZS 25, you get a larger floating windscreen, knuckle guards and a choice of three colours: Dark Cyan, Dark Matte Blue and Metallic White. 

The 249cc air-cooled and fuel-injected single-cylinder motor has received the BS6 treatment and now produces 20.8PS at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm at 6000rpm. The FZ 25 BS6 loses 0.1PS but gains 0.1Nm over the BS4 FZ 25. With the BS6 updates, the FZ 25 BS6 weighs 1kg more than the BS4 version. 

While Yamaha is yet to release the full specifications of the BS6 models, they seem to share their underpinnings with the BS4 FZ25. That includes the dual-channel ABS setup as well.

With these new updates, we expect the FZ 25 BS6 to be priced at a premium of Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 over the BS4 FZ 25. This would put the FZ 25 BS6’s pricing in the region of Rs 1.4 lakh. The more premium FZS 25 could be priced at Rs 1.43 lakh. (both prices, ex-showroom). Competition for both motorcycles comes from the TVS Apache RTR 200 BS6 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
