Booking for Yamaha’s latest 150cc offering, the FZ and FZ-S FI Version 2.0 have commenced in metro cities. One can book the new Yamaha FZ and FZ-S FI Version 2.0 for a booking amount of Rs 5,000. Deliveries of the bike will begin by end of July 2014. It was expected that with the launch of the new fuel-injected FZ-series, the old carburetted iterations would be discontinued but according to dealers the Version 2.0 will be an additional variant under the FZ family.
The FZ-S FI Version 2.0 is priced at Rs 78,250 whereas the FZ FI Version 2.0 is priced at Rs 76,250 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). At this price point, the fuel-injected version is almost Rs 6,000 dearer than its carburetted sibling. In terms of styling updates, the new Yamaha FZ and FZ-S FI Version 2.0 sports a split seats, restyled headlamp and tail lamp, tank extensions, new all-digital console and revised muffler.
On the mechanical front, the engine now displaces less and makes less power. Using fuel injection it now develops a max power output of 13.1PS and the peak torque 12.8Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via five-speed gearbox. The new powerplant has been equipped with Yamaha's own Blue Core tech technology which the Japanese two-wheeler giant improves fuel efficiency by 14 per cent by reducing power losses and improving combustion efficiency. Suspension and brakes remain unchanged whereas the frame of the new Yamaha FZ series has been reworked, and alongwith the engine changes the new bike is lighter by 3kg. The new Yamaha FZ and FZ-S FI Version 2.0 will be pitched against the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160, Honda CB Trigger, new Hero Xtreme and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 150.
