Earlier this year, while we were expecting Yamaha R15 version 3, the company disappointed many by simply adding new body graphics and colours to their sporty 150cc motorcycle. (Read about new Yamaha R15 colours). Now, the Yamaha FZ series gets a similar superficial upgrade, as the Japanese company has introduced nine new body colours for their 153cc street bike range.
The Yamaha Fazer will now be available in three new shades, namely Terrain White, Wilderness Black and Ravine Red and is priced at Rs 77,351 (ex-showroom Delhi). The popular Yamaha FZ will now sport Panther Black, Raider Red or Ambush Blue colour scheme and will retail at Rs 70,411 (ex-showroom Delhi). Finally the Yamaha FZ-S will be available in Pouncing Black, Preying Red, Hawk Eye Gold body colours and would be sold at Rs 72,385 (ex-showroom Delhi).
However, there are no mechanical changes and the three bikes of the Yamaha FZ series retain the same 153cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which delivers 14PS of maximum power and 13.6Nm of peak torque, and comes mated with a 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha enthusiasts have been asking for a more powerful motor to do justice to its muscular street-fighter design.
So, what is Yamaha Motor India planning for its motorcycle range? During the 2014 Auto Expo when ZigWheels caught up with Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India, he mentioned that though the
company's immediate focus is on scooters, Yamaha has not forgotten about its motorcycle range.
Meanwhile, the rumour mill is buzzing with news that the company might be developing a new, more powerful engine and would be upgrading the Yamaha FZ range. We can expect the upgraded Yamaha FZ to get fuel
injection system, and use a large bore to churn out a couple of more PS of power. We are trying to find out more about the new breed of Yamaha bikes for India and keep you updated on them. Watch this space.
