Yamaha had recently released a teaser image of the new FZ250 motorcycle which is due for its official launch on January 24, 2017. With the date approaching closer, authorised dealerships across the country have started to accept bookings for the motorcycle unofficially at a minimum token amount of Rs 10,000. The FZ250 will be a naked street bike offering from Yamaha and will be its second model after the YZF-R3 in the quarter-litre motorcycle segment.
Although the motorcycle is yet to be officially unveiled, it has however been spotted testing on the road on quite a few occasions. The spied images confirm that the new offering will carry a muscular street-bike design language that will be based on Yamaha’s FZ Version 2.0 and the M-Slaz. The FZ250 will feature a compact bikini fairing at the front which will house a full-LED headlamp unit. It gets a chiselled fuel tank with extensions for a more aggressive look, stepped seats and a sleek looking tail unit that complete the look of the motorcycle. It will feature a stubby exhaust muffler which is similar to the one found on the Yamaha FZ Version 2.0.
Powering the FZ250 will be a 249cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected mill that has been borrowed from the Fazer 250 sold in the Brazilian market. On the FZ 250, the engine develops 20.7PS of max power and 20.4Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Expect the FZ250 to deliver a similar power output which will provide a relaxed riding character, unlike the Duke 200 Duke.
For other cycle parts, the FZ250 will be equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends. While ABS rings were not visible on the test bikes, expect Yamaha to introduce it as an option later, considering the upcoming safety laws.
Expected to be launched around the Rs 1.5 lakh mark, the Yamaha FZ250 will compete against the likes of the Mahindra Mojo, Bajaj Dominar 400 and the KTM 200 Duke.
