India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has registered an 8 per cent growth in their domestic sales figures for the month of April 2017 over the same month last year. The bikemaker has sold 68,827 units in April 2017 compared to 63,927 units sold in April 2016. The sales number also includes vehicles sold by Yamaha in Nepal. The company claims that they have focused on innovative efforts, customer-centric activities and an exciting product lineup which have helped them to achieve better sales figures.
Yamaha has recently launched the FZ25 which is currently the cheapest 250cc motorcycle in the country. Though the motorcycle has been recently rolled out, it surely seems to have worked well in terms of sales in the quarter-litre segment. The FZ series had always been a forte for Yamaha in India in terms of sales and the FZ25 is no exception. It is powered by a 249cc engine which develops 20.9PS @ 8000rpm and a peak torque of 20Nm @ 6000rpm. Yamaha has opted to keep the engine air cooled to keep costs in check. The company claims that the introduction of more products targeting tier-II and tier-III cities, where it has a larger group of customers, has resulted in the good sales figures.
As far as upcoming offerings from Yamaha are concerned, the company has unveiled a video of the upcoming R15 V3 internationally. The launch of the motorcycle is expected to be just around the corner and we expect it to make an appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo. The bikemaker has also showcased the V-Ixion R at the 2017 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) which will get the new 155cc engine like the R15 V3. The 155cc fuel-injected mill develops 19.3PS 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm @ 8500rpm. Another good product in Yamaha’s lineup is the Fascino, which also sells in good number.
Commenting on the growth in sales figures, Mr. Roy Kurian, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “The sale numbers bear testimony to Yamaha’s focus in growth, regardless of circumstantial challenges like what the industry recently confronted with the ban on BS III inventory. As the company is eyeing to achieve 1 million sales in 2017, it has introduced FZ 25, the macho street bike to cater to the premium segments that mostly dominates the urban market. On the other hand, the company will remain vigilant to tier II and tier III markets that could see reasonable surge in scooter sales.”
The company currently offers the FZ-FI, FZS-FI, Fazer-FI, FZ25, R15, SZ-RR and the Saluto in bikes and the Fascino, Alpha and the Ray in scooters.
