Yamaha has stopped production of the YZF-R15S and the Fazer 150 motorcycles in the Indian market. The two motorcycles were not updated with ABS when they crossed the 1 April 2019 safety mandate deadline.
Despite sharing the same mechanicals as the FZ series, the Fazer was never quite able to attract the same popularity. This was reflected in its falling sales figures. Hence, it wasn’t surprising when Yamaha did not update the motorcycle alongside the FZ-Fi and the FZS-Fi Version 3.0 back in January.
The R15S, on the other hand, carried the design of the first-gen R15 with the internals of the second-gen R15. This helped rake in some numbers for a while until Yamaha introduced the R15 V3.0 at the Auto Expo 2018. Since then the demand slowed down steadily, prompting the company to discontinue the model.
Currently, the Japanese brand has four 150cc offerings in its lineup: MT-15, FZ-Fi, FZS-Fi, R15 V3.0 and the SZ-RR. Our sources have confirmed that the company will be introducing the NMax 155 maxi-scooter in the near future.
