Following similar antics last year, Yamaha India has introduced as many as three new colours for the R15 Version 2.0 ahead of Holi. The powertrain and other specifications on the R15 remain the same, while the pricing has marginally been increased to Rs 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), according to the company’s website.
In the build up to the festival of colours in March, the Japanese manufacturer has raised curtains over three new colours on the R15 – Revving Blue, Sparky Green and Adrenaline Red. Akin to a move last year that saw the introduction of two new colours – GP Blue and Streaking Cyan, in February, Yamaha has continued its tradition of pepping up fresh hues ahead of Holi.
The R15 however continues to employ the 149cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine that churns out 17PS of power and 15Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 7-speed transmission.
Since the launch of the R15 version 2.0 in 2011, the bike has mounted popularity among the younger sections of the country. In a bid to further strengthen its hold on the market, Yamaha is also conducting extensive surveys for the version 3.0 of the R15, reports suggested.
Certain pictures, meanwhile, show two unofficial mock-ups of the Yamaha YZF-R15 v3.0, one of which is directly based on its predecessor and the other based on the naked M-Slaz that runs on Indonesian roads with the same engine as the R15.
The former evokes strong styling cues from the European Yamaha R125 while the latter has a hint of the Honda CBR250R around the tailpiece but is otherwise completely different looking.
While the engine update still looks like a distant proposition, the colour update is aimed at attracting the young customers of India once more. It will be interesting to see how much impact the colour update affects the R15 V2.0’s fight against the Honda CBR150R, Bajaj Pulsar Rs200 and Suzuki Gixxer.
