The Yamaha YZF-R15 has been a bike that packs the brand’s years of motorsports learning into an accessible package. Not only it offers great performance, but is also a real head-turner. Here are a few accessories to take things up a notch:
Performance
Powertronics ECU (MY18 and MY19)
Price: Rs 18,000
The R15 belts out decent power from its 155cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. But come on, who wouldn’t want more performance. This piggyback ECU requires around 40 mins to install, and gives you the option to toggle between two maps. Yes, you can download different maps from the brand’s website. Everything from the wiring harness to the zip ties are all part of the kit, so all you need to do is fit the wiring harness and install the maps. Powertronics also claims that even the throttle response improves.
Ergonomics
Tank Grips
Price: Rs 1,000
As much as we love the aggressive seating position on the track, it eventually takes a toll on your back and wrists. With these tank grips, you’ll find it easier to hold the tank with your legs and take some load off your upper body and reduce fatigue to a great extent. It will be of great use when you are corner carving in the mountains or nailing the apexes on a racetrack.
Styling
Seat Cowl
Price: Rs 2250+taxes
Supersport bikes aren’t really meant for pillion riders, and with a sleek tail like the R15’s, you'll definitely want to ride solo. Autologue offers the seat cowl in the bike’s stock colours, so you don’t have to bother with getting it painted.
Tail Tidy
Price:Rs 1,399
With the sleek LED tail light and the R1-inspired rear end, the stock license plate sticks out like a sore thumb. This tail tidy from Motofushion not just adds visual appeal to the bike but also shaves off some weight. Being constructed with powder coated steel, the unit is also rustproof and sturdy.
Electrical
USB Charger + Mobile Holder
Price: Rs 750 + Rs 350
Yamaha is yet to equip the R15 with bluetooth connectivity, and until it does, this is your best bet. Being offered by the manufacturer, you wouldn’t have to worry about the warranty or messing up the electricals. At Rs 1,100, this is fairly affordable as well.
Tyres
Apollo Alpha S1
Price: Rs 3,699
Unfortunately, if you intend to stick to the stock tyre sizes, you aren’t left with any choice but to stick to the stock bias ply tyre at the front. However, you get decent options for the rear tyres, including the Apollo Alpha S1. With the ban on tyre imports, you no longer have the luxury to opt for the optional Metzeler tyres offered by Yamaha.
