Yamaha’s XSR-155 is one of the coolest entry-level retro roadsters we’ve seen so far. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. We’ve been aching to see the bike here in India, but our prayers are yet to be answered by the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer. While our wait continues, the XSR155 in Indonesia has received yet another livery for 2021. It’s priced at Rp 36,580,000, equivalent to Rs 1.89 lakh here in India.
The new matte green paint scheme looks handsome with the tan ribbed seat. The tank features subtle graphics while the side panels get a brush-metal finish. Even the front fender is colour-matched, unlike the standard models. These aside, the bike remains unchanged, both cosmetically and mechanically.
It uses the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), the same as the Yamaha YZF R15 V3. It has been tuned to produce 19.3PS at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm at 8500rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.
The hardware is pretty premium, consisting of an inverted front fork, rear monoshock with an aluminium swingarm, and disc brakes at both ends.
Sadly, we won’t see the XSR155 in India anytime soon. Instead, Yamaha will launch the Yamaha FZ-X, an odd combination of a retro-themed motorcycle based on the FZS-Fi. More about it here.
