Remember the sweet looking Zero SR/F we all drooled over last year? It now has a fairing and a new suffix. Meet the SR/S! Despite being pegged as a sportbike, it offers a comfortable riding posture, a tall windscreen, repositioned footpegs and a larger rear subframe which seems to have mounting points for panniers. Touring characteristics, some might say.

The bike’s design looks clean and minimalistic, with an alienesque LED headlight adding to the drama. And thanks to the fairing which offers better aerodynamics, the SR/S delivers 13 percent better range on the highway. Theoretically, this means the SR/S can be ridden for about 180km between charges, compared to its naked sibling which returns 160km per charge.
The SR/S is powered by the same ZF75-10 motor and ZF14.4kWh lithium-ion battery which offers 190Nm of peak torque and 111.5PS of power! All this is controlled via a new Bosch MSC System synced with Zero’s Cypher III operating system which brings with it a bunch of rider aids like cornering ABS, cornering traction control and drag torque control. It also gets different rider modes.
The SR/S also seems to borrow the same 5-inch colour TFT screen with smartphone connectivity seen on the Zero SR/F. This enables the rider to control the motor, battery pack, electronics and rider aids like stability control via the console or Zero’s dedicated app on your phone. The bike is currently only offered in the international market for a price tag of $19,995 (Rs 14.33 lakh) for the base version. The premium variant (higher charging capacity), on the other hand, costs $21,995 (Rs 15.76 lakh). The Zero SR/S has already started shipping out to its global dealership network which stands at 200.
As you’d expect, the addition of the full fairing and the extended subframe, among other changes, have resulted in some weight gain. The faired sibling tips the scale 234kg -- 9kg more than the SR/F which weighs in at 225kg (kerb).
The Zero SR/S has gone on sale in the American market for a price tag of $19,995 (Rs 14.33 lakh) for the base version. The premium variant (higher charging capacity) costs $21,995 (Rs 15.76 lakh).
