Volvo Cars India recently gave the XC60 and S90 a facelift with minor cosmetic updates and new features. But the highlight is the new 250PS/350Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with a mild-hybrid system for torque boost and improved fuel economy. Also, the sedan sends the power exclusively to the front wheels while the SUV gets all-wheel drive.
The XC60 is also the heavier model. Volvo hasn’t divulged the exact weight of the exact variant on test, but the S90 tips the scale between 1794kg and 2095kg, while the XC60 weighs between 1,855kg and 2,319kg.
How does this result in the performance of both models? To find that out, we strapped our VBox and headed to our test location to bring you the answer.

Despite the SUV being heavier, the all-wheel drivetrain gave it a better launch, and therefore, the XC60 is just 0.18 seconds slower than the S90. Even during roll-on acceleration, the XC60 was overshadowed by a whisker. These minor differences shouldn’t make a difference in real-world performance.

The XC60, with a heavier weight and much better hardware, impressively kept up with the S90 in our performance runs. So at the end of the day, it boils down to your preference of whether you would need a SUV or a sedan as both have decent real-world performance. We tested both models and our first drive review will be out soon. So stay tuned.
