During the launch of the XUV700, Mahindra’s chief engineers proudly claimed that the XUV700’s 200PS petrol engine can do 200kmph. And as we experienced it at Mahindra’s SUV proving track, there was no doubting their claim. Here you can see our boss man trying to test their claims in our Instagram video.
The XUV700 is a seriously fast machine! But what happens when you bring in the MG Hector and similarly priced Jeep Compass petrol for a detailed performance test?
We took the automatic variants of all three SUVs and headed to our test location to bring you the answer. But before we start, here’s a quick look at the specifications:

The XUV700 achieved the quickest 0-100kmph time, though by a whisker. It started pouring when we were testing the Hector, and that’s a small reason for the slower time. But with its slow shifting DCT we don’t think it would have challenged the other two, even if the conditions were dry.
This is especially evident in roll-on accelerations where the MG is the slowest. Once again, the XUV700 is the quickest when you put your foot down in the 20-80kmph run.
Verdict

The XUV700, with its dominant specifications and affordable price tag, wins this test when it comes to the performance aspect. Sadly, we weren’t able to test all three SUVs for their fuel efficiency. But we’ll be bringing a detailed report soon, so stay tuned to ZigWheels.
