Nissan, as promised, has launched the Datsun Go hatchback for under Rs 4 lakh even for the top of the line, most expensive version of the car. The entry-level Datsun Go is priced at Rs 3,12,270, the mid variant at Rs 3,46,482 and the top-end variant of the Go costs Rs 3,69,999 (all prices are ex-showroom in Delhi). The Datsun Go which is targeted at first time car buyers is an alternative to the high-selling Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai’s entry-level car, the Eon. The Go is only available with a petrol engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, indirect injection unit that develops a max power output of 68PS at 5000rpm and a peak torque of 104Nm at 4000rpm. The ARAI fuel efficiency rating for the Datsun Go is 20.6kmpl.
In terms of mechanicals, the Datsun Go uses a monocoque chassis, MacPherson struts and torsion beam axle as suspension at the front and rear respectively, and ventilated disc brakes upfront and a drum brake set up at the rear. The tubeless tyres at 155/70 R13 are skinny, but Nissan officials say, it aids fuel efficiency. The Datsun Go will be sold through Nissan dealerships across the country and the deliveries of the car are already under way. The Go comes with a 2 year, unlimited kilometer warranty which is way better than both the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Eon offer.
