Just two weeks after the launch of the new Pajero, Japanese car maker Mitsubishi has launched a seven-seater version of the Outlander SUV. Earlier launched in 2010, the Outlander retains the 2.4-litre motor on the outgoing model that delivers 170PS of power and 226Nm of torque mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
From the outside, the new Outlander doesn’t look too different from the earlier model, sans the fighter jet-inspired grille that enhances its aggressive stance. Inside, the third-row seating with tumble function can now accommodate children. The car remains as feature-rich as before with keyless entry, a Rockford Fosgate 710-watt six CD changer with USB port, split tailgate, paddle shifts, cruise control and a 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated audio controls.
Launched in just a single variant, the new Outlander comes with HID (High-Intensity-Discharge) headlamps with adaptive frontlight system or AFS. Safety features comprise ABS and EBD along with RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body and dual front passenger airbags. At Rs 20.55 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, the Outlander is now priced a notch above than the previous model.
The car-maker has been relatively slow in bringing its products to the country. Whether it has been the Lancer, the Lancer Cedia or the ultimate Lancer Evolution X, the company is taking one step at a time. However, with the back-to-back launch of the Pajero Sport and the new Outlander, HM-Mitsubishi seems to have turned a new leaf. The new Pajero also bowled over automotive journalists and buyers alike with its dapper looks and extreme off-roading capabilities.
