TVS has launched its latest commuter offering for the Indian two-wheeler market in the form of the Star City+. The Star City+ is priced at Rs 44,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the most expensive version that comes with electric start and alloy wheels. The TVS Star City+ has been launched only in Chennai as of now with launches in other cities to follow soon. The new commuter offering was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. To give the new bike a more upmarket appeal the designers at TVS have employed sharp lines instead of curves which was the case with its predecessor, the Star City. The new Star City+ features a revised headlamp design, contoured fuel tank with usable knee recess and a seat with contrast stitching. Additionally, it gets a re-styled exhaust pipe and a dual-tone mudguard. The Star City+ also employs a redesigned instrument cluster with analogue speedometer and digital display for fuel gauge and odometer alongwith various tell-tale lights.
The Star City+ continues to use by the same 110cc single cylinder engine as on the Star City. The air-cooled, four-stroke engine has a power rating of 8.3PS @ 7,000rpm and a peak torque figure that stands at 8.7Nm peaking at 5,000rpm. TVS engineers have employed the company's own Ecothurst technology to the engine to improve the fuel efficiency further. The Star City+ will compete against the Honda Dream Yuga, Mahindra Centuro, Bajaj Discover 100M and Hero Passion Xpro among the others in the already crowded commuter segment.
