The 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift and the Exter are two latest Hyundais to be introduced this year. Yes, one might be a premium hatchback and the other, a micro SUV. But let’s say if you’ve around Rs 10 lakh in hand and are looking for a brand new Hyundai, you’re now spoilt for choice. So in this comparison, we are going to take a deep down dive between these two models to compare their specifications.
Grab some popcorn and start scrolling through:

Rs 9.29 lakh |
To keep things fair and square, we have compared the most closely priced variants of the models. So in the case of the Exter, we have taken its top-spec SX (O) Connect trim, while for the i20, on the other hand, we are comparing its one-below-top Asta trim. And as seen in the table, they are set apart by just Rs 3,000.

The Hyundai i20 is the larger car on all aspects here, save for height. It also has the larger wheelbase on paper and that should translate into a roomier cabin.
Styling has always been a subjective matter and we’ll leave that up to you, where you can tell us which car’s design you like in the comments. If you intend to take a closer look at both the models, then head to our in-depth image galleries by tapping the links below:

As stated above, both models get an expansive features list, including a sunroof, to satisfy the buyers’ cravings for comforts. It’s just that the i20 offers a few extra niceties such as LED headlights and a Bose sound system. Even the safety kit is identical, with six airbags and electronic stability control.
This is one bit where both the cars have one thing in common: Hyundai’s familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine. That said, while they get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, the automatic options are different. The Exter relies on a 5-speed AMT with paddle shifters; the i20, on the other hand, gets a CVT that’s much smoother and refined.

The Hyundai Exter also gets an option of a factory fit CNG kit for those who want lower running costs. And in the i20, if you want a sportier driving experience, you should consider the N Line with its 1-litre turbo-petrol engine and minor mechanical tweaks.
Both cars come loaded to the brim with features, share the same engines and are likeable in their own aspects. We would say pick the Hyundai Exter if you want the novelty factor of an SUV’s taller riding position. It’s also compact and easy to drive around town and can seat four in decent comfort.
On the other hand, the i20 should be on your consideration if you want a slightly larger car than the Exter and has that slight edge in terms of features. Also, if you’re eyeing the automatic variants, we would pick the i20 due to the smoother and refined CVT, though it does come at a premium.
That said, regardless of the car you pick, you won’t be going wrong with either one of them.
