2023 Tata Safari Facelift vs Mahindra XUV700: Battle Of The Two Made-In-India 3-row Midsize SUVs

Tata Motors has given the current-gen Safari its first-ever major overhaul. As part of this update, the 2023 Tata Safari facelift has got a revamped design, more modern interior and plenty of new features. With these changes, how does the new Tata Safari 2023 compare to the Mahindra XUV700, its immediate competitor?

In terms of size, the Safari is the wider and taller one out of the two. However, the Mahindra XUV700 slightly edges out the Safari when it comes to its overall length and wheelbase. Nevertheless, both models are imposing and stand out on the road.

One point to note is that the Tata Safari can be bought in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, while the XUV700 is available only as a 7-seater.

Features

Both models get almost all the comfort and safety features you would expect at this price point to satiate your needs. However, the Tata Safari facelift gets two important features – ventilated front seats and second row seats (6-seater) and ambient lighting – that aren’t offered with the XUV700. 

Engine Options 

The Tata Safari facelift gets just one engine option: a 170PS 2-litre diesel with manual and automatic transmissions. On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV700 offers you three options: a turbo-petrol and a diesel in two states of tune. Also, both the turbo-petrol and top-spec diesel engines are much more powerful than the Safari’s unit.

Plus, the XUV700 diesel-automatic also offers the option of all-wheel drive if you intend to take your vehicle off the beaten track frequently. 

Price And Verdict

With these updates, Tata has made the Safari’s package far more appealing and likeable. However, do note that the Safari still doesn’t get the option of all-wheel drive and its petrol engine is still in development. That said, regardless of the car you pick, we bet you won’t go wrong with either of them.
