Hero MotoCorp launched the Xoom 160 maxi-scooter in India for Rs 1,48,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Let’s have a detailed look at how it compares against the Aprilia SXR 160 which is priced at Rs 1,43,018 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) with the help of images.
The Hero Xoom 160 gets a rugged maxi-scooter design. This is evident by the high-mounted front fender, block pattern tyres and a long single-piece seat. The Xoom 160 also gets a centre-tunnel which houses the fuel tank.
The Aprilia SXR 160 has a similar design language which includes a large front-end, a tall windscreen and a single-piece seat. The Aprilia lacks a centre tunnel and houses the fuel tank under the seat which allows for more space on the footboard. This also gives it more storage space on the floorboard, as compared to the Xoom 160.
The Hero Xoom 160 gets a brand-new 156cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which makes 14.6PS and 14Nm. It gets an inverted telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends which are mounted on 14-inch alloy wheels that have block-pattern tyres. The scooter has a seat height of 787mm and a ground clearance of 155mm. It has a 7-litre fuel tank capacity and weighs in at 142kg kerb.
The Aprilia SXR 160 is powered by a 160.03cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which makes 11.09PS and 12.13Nm. The scooter has an inverted telescopic fork and a single shock absorber. It gets a disc brake at the front and a drum at the rear. The scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels at both ends with road-biased tyres. The scooter gets a 7-litre fuel tank capacity as well.
The Hero Xoom 160 gets an LCD instrument cluster which supports smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and allows for turn-by-turn navigation, call & SMS alerts, and music control. It has dual-LED headlights and an LED tail light. The scooter gets keyless ignition, a USB charging port on the front apron and single-channel ABS on the front wheel.
The Aprilia SXR 160 too comes with an LCD instrument cluster but lacks smartphone connectivity. It gets LED headlights and tail light with sporty looking LED DRLs upfront. The scooter gets a regular key ignition with storage facility on the front apron along with a USB charging port for added convenience.

The Hero Xoom 160 is the more expensive scooter of the two. But for the premium you get more features, a more powerful engine, larger wheels, and a distinct styling which will grab attention. The Aprilia SXR 160, while being more affordable, gets a larger floorboard, but slightly less powerful engine and less features. The extra you spend on acquiring the Xoom 160 should be worth the amount as you should get a better overall riding experience. However that remains to be confirmed till we can swing a leg over it.
