[Update: Hero has launched the Xtreme 160R. Know prices and more details here]
Back in 2019, Hero MotoCorp showcased a radical-looking concept motorcycle, the Xtreme 1.R. The 160cc motorcycle wowed crowds with its sporty approach, one-piece bodywork, rear camera, and active rear aero winglets. While on the way to production, a few features made it to the Xtreme 160R while a few were dropped. Here’s what the Hero Xtreme 160R gets from the Xtreme 1.R concept:
The headlamp:
Yes, the Xtreme 160R’s headlamp unit is the same as the Xtreme 1.R concept except for the red inserts. Hero has also equipped the production motorcycle with all-LED lighting, making it the only motorcycle in the 160cc segment with the feature. So, it gets a LED headlamp, LED tail lamp, and LED turn indicators.
Digital instrument console:
The all-digital instrument console is also similar to the one seen on the concept motorcycle -- at least on the outside. Since the display on the concept was switched off, we can’t really compare the displays. Nevertheless, the production-spec Xtreme 160R gets a blue backlit LCD display. It shows basic info such as speed, engine rpm, odometer, trip meter, and fuel level.
Wheels:
Not the rear solid wheel but the front alloy wheel design. Hero claims the alloy wheels on the Xtreme 160R are lightweight units. They should help reduce unsprung mass, aid handling, and lessen the overall kerb weight of 138.5kg.
Petal disc brake:
We admit the braking is not as high-spec as the Xtreme 1.R concept’s dinner plate-sized front disc with radially mounted callipers. Hero, however, has retained the petal pattern on the Xtreme 160R’s 276mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes. This pattern helps dissipate heat quickly thereby aiding braking efficiency. It also gets a single-channel ABS setup as standard fitment.
Air-cooled motor:
For all its sportiness and radical features, the Xtreme 1.R concept had a humble air-cooled motor. Like the concept, the production Xtreme 160R too gets a 160cc motor, but it is a BS6-compliant fuel-injected unit. It delivers 15.2PS at 8500rpm and 14Nm at 6500rpm. Interestingly, Hero claims the Xtreme 160R will accelerate from 0-60kmph in 4.7 seconds making it the quickest motorcycle in the 160cc category. So, some level of sportiness from the concept has been carried over.
