Honda recently launched the 2022 Vario 160 in Indonesia. The rival to the Yamaha Aerox 155, gets significant updates including a bigger engine. Let’s see how both the sporty scooters fare against each other in terms of specs on paper.
In terms of styling, both the bikes have a pretty similar overall look, that being a big hunky, sporty body. Both the bikes get a muscular appeal with sharp and edgy body panels.
Unlike the Aerox 155, the Vario gets a joint headlight setup with DRLs that looks pretty aggressive and extends across the fascia, which may look a bit overdone to some.
And while the Aerox gets sporty graphics with multiple colours, the Vario flaunts a clean, single-tone paint scheme, which certainly does make it look classy.

From the specs above, both the bikes are pretty close to each other in terms of the powertrain, although in terms of performance, the Vario might perform slightly better due to its lower weight. The Aerox, however, gets a VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) which helps the scooter’s engine maintain a balance between low-end grunt and top-end drive.

The Vario 160 is underpinned by Honda's new eSAF(enhanced Smart Architecture Frame) platform which the company claims to improve agility and handling as well. On the other hand, the Aerox gets a deltabox style underbone frame.
Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both ends. However, the Vario gets an optional dual-channel ABS setup which should ensure better safety while braking aggressively, as compared to the Aerox' single-channel ABS setup.
Both the scooters offer 14-inch tyres on both ends, though the slightly wider tyres on the Aerox should theoretically offer greater cornering confidence.

In all aspects, the Aerox is bigger and heavier than the Vario, and the difference will surely be felt by the riders. Both the bikes, however, get the same 5.5-litre fuel capacity.
The Vario will be an ideal choice for short riders because of its lower seat height and lighter weight.
Talking about features, the Honda Vario 160 comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, LED headlight and taillight, Honda Smart Key function (alarm and answer back function), keyless operation, a USB type A charger, 18 litres of boot space, and dual-channel ABS (on the top-spec variant). Coming to the Aerox, the scooter features a 5.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging port, side stand engine cut-off and a massive 24.5 litre boot space. While both lack navigation functionality, the Vario 160 misses out on Bluetooth connectivity as well. Price & Verdict

Yamaha Aerox 155 |
IDR 25,800,000 (around Rs 1.37 lakh), IDR 28,500,000 (around Rs 1.48 lakh) |
Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) |
The Vario 160 comes in two variants, a CBS and ABS variant whereas the Aerox can be had only in a single-channel ABS variant. From the price comparison, the Aerox is slightly cheaper, but the Vario will not be heading to India anytime soon. The Aerox 155 is not only less expensive but also offers better practicality, not to mention smartphone connectivity.
Summing up, the Aerox is ideal for those who want a balance of performance and practicality. On the other hand, the Vario is perfect for those who prioritise performance, looks and safety.
