The only 150cc scooters in the Indian market at the moment are the Aprilias and Vespas, but that could change soon, with chances of Honda launching its PCX150 in India. On the same platform, it also recently launched the ADV150 in the USA. Yamaha has moved its scooter game from 110cc to 125cc and the next logical step would be 150cc. It already has the tool for the job: the NMax 155. Today, we’re going to see how the ADV150 and the NMax stack up against each other on paper:

Both bikes feature similar displacements and hardware in this department, but it’s the NMax that has a distinct advantage here. Hardly surprising when you consider that it shares its motor with the venerable R15. It’s got the same bore and stroke, and it even features VVA just like the R15. Peak output is higher than that of the ADV while arriving 500rpm earlier - and thanks to VVA, it should be spread better across the rev range too. Heck, Yamaha has even thrown in traction control on the NMax!

The NMax once again has the upper hand when it comes to brakes, featuring a rear disc unit, while the ADV150 has to make do with a 130mm drum. ABS is another area where it has an advantage, because the system operates on both wheels of the NMax while the Honda gets just single-channel ABS. But being a slightly off-road oriented scooter, the ADV rolls on a large 14-inch front wheel wrapped in higher-profile rubber, which should result in better ride quality over rough surfaces. And though we don’t have suspension travel numbers for the Yamaha, it’s also quite likely that the Honda features more travel than the NMax.

It’s hard to pick a clear winner in this category. The NMax once again ekes out an advantage with its lower seat height and lighter kerb weight, both of which should make it a more friendly and approachable scooter. Its 125mm ground clearance, though, is slightly on the lower side, and the ADV150’s 165mm clearance is better suited to Indian conditions. The Honda also packs in a larger fuel tank, making it the better scooter for long-distance journeys.
