Yamaha recently showcased the YZF-R7 at Auto Expo 2025. While they haven’t confirmed whether the motorcycle will ever launch in India and if it ever arrives. Let’s find out how it compares against the Triumph Daytona 660, a middleweight supersport which sits in the same segment but with an extra cylinder.
The Yamaha YZF-R7 gets a very sporty-looking design which is inspired by its elder singlings, the Yamaha YZF-R1. The supersport looks very aggressive and has sharp lines which accentuate the sporty nature of the motorcycle. There’s a single-pod LED headlight flanked by sleek looking LED DRLs. Internationally, it gets two colour options: Icon Blue, and Midnight Black.
The Triumph Daytona 660 is a sport tourer from the British manufacturer. The motorcycle gets a unique design as compared to the iconic Daytona 675R. The dual-LED headlights, raised clip-on handles, and the clean, simple-looking fairing makes it a very mature-looking motorcycle. The bike gets three colour options: Satin Granite / Satin Jet Black, Carnival Red / Sapphire Black, and Snowdonia White / Sapphire Black.
The Yamaha YZF-R7 is powered by a 689cc crossplane-twin liquid-cooled engine which makes 73.4PS at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm. It’s mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The bike is suspended on a fully-adjustable fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking is handled by a dual 298mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear. The R7 has a seat height of 835mm, a ground clearance of 135mm and gets a 13-litre fuel tank capacity. The motorcycle weighs 188kg kerb.

The seat height of the Daytona 660 is 810mm and it has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres. The Daytona weighs 210kg kerb.
Despite the Daytona making more power, the YZF-R7 is the lighter motorcycle of the two and gets a fully-adjustable fork which is a great addition for track enthusiasts.
The Yamaha YZF-R7 gets more features out of the two motorcycles. It gets a 5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth for call/SMS alerts, music control and turn-by-turn navigation. The bike gets a ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, wheelie control, and riding modes.
The Triumph Daytona 660 gets a negatively-lit LCD instrument cluster with a small TFT inset. The instrument cluster supports smartphone connectivity and allows for call/SMS alerts, music control and turn-by-turn navigation. The Daytona too gets ride-by-wire throttle as well as switchable traction control and riding modes.
Both the motorcycles share a lot of features but the R7 comes out on top for having a full-TFT display and also gets wheelie control which makes it easy for someone who isn’t well versed with riding a bike as powerful.
Yamaha India has not announced whether they will or will not launch the YZF-R7 in India, if it comes, we expect it to be around Rs 10-11 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Triumph Daytona 660 is on sale in India and is priced from Rs 9,72,450 to Rs 9,85,710 ( ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Yamaha YZF-R7 is the sportier and more committed motorcycle of the two. The lighter wet weight, adjustable fork and the aggressive riding posture makes it a great choice for enthusiasts who do track days often and love to hit the canyons on the weekends.
The Triumph Daytona 660 is the more touring friendly motorcycle with an upright riding posture compared to the R7, softer suspension and a more linear power delivery. It is a great do-it-all motorcycle which allows you to tour, ride in the cities and hit occasional corners as well.
