The Royal Enfield’s 650cc cruiser has once again been spotted in the flesh. The 650 twins have been a success both in India and abroad, and Royal Enfield was bound to expand the platform further. We think that the bike could be named the Roadster 650 as it is one of the names that was trademarked by the brand and fits the bike’s orientation well. Judging by the state of the test mule, a mid- to late-2021 launch is expected.

The heart of the motorcycle as well as the bolted-on cradle frame remains identical to the Interceptor 650’s. What does seem different is the subframe, the rider touch points and the steering geometry. The subframe looks kind of similar to the Classic 350’s or even the upcoming Meteor 350. This will help bring the saddle height lower from the Interceptor’s 802mm. Then the wide beach bars and forward-set footpegs are going to put the rider in a traditional cruiser riding posture and pillion comfort too should be better than the Interceptor’s. Lastly, the front end has been raked out for better highway stability.
A USD fork will be a first for a Royal Enfield bike but the rear shocks seem to be rather simpler than the ones found on its 650 siblings. No radial braking caliper, but if the units are going to provide as fierce stopping power as the Interceptor, then we would have nothing to worry about.

Also spotted on the Roadster 650 is the asymmetric twin pod console that will make its debut on the Meteor 350. This will enable the bike to have smartphone connectivity, turn by turn navigation and more connected features. The lack of LEDs still seems to be a big miss here.
We will not be surprised if Royal Enfield managed to price the bike around the Rs 3 lakh mark. Considering that the production of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 has been stopped, this new RE cruiser could very well occupy the spot of an affordable mid-displacement cruiser.
