It is expected to get two 1.0-litre powertrain options, shared with the Kiger.
It is Nissan’s first-ever sub-4m SUV in the Indian market.
The Magnite is expected to be launched in early 2021.
Hopefully, Indians are as excited about the launch of the Magnite as Nissan is. The Japanese brand is pinning its hopes on the sub-4m SUV to revive its fortunes in India after a not-so-successful turnaround with its current lineup. As we get closer to the expected 2021 launch date, the Magnite has once again been spotted under heavy camouflage in Pune.
As part of the Renault-Nissan alliance, the Magnite shares its CMF-A+ platform with the upcoming Renault Kiger. Nissan’s sub-4m entry gets a bold silhouette, complete with roof rails and a roof-integrated spoiler, to give it that functional identity.
The Kiger and Magnite could also share a 100PS 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 72PS 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine seen in the Renault Triber. Transmission options are expected to include a standard manual gearbox and a CVT option for the turbo-petrol motor.
Recently, Nissan unveiled the interior of the Magnite concept, revealing a minimalistic yet funky layout. To compete with giants like the Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Kia Sonet, the Magnite too will come loaded with features. These include connected car technology, 360-degree camera, and a digital instrument cluster.
Nissan’s debut in the segment will see the Magnite go up against an already competitive field which includes the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Mahindra XUV300. Upcoming models such as the Kia Sonet, sibling Renault Kiger, and Toyota Urban Cruiser will also compete with the Magnite. It is expected to be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh onwards.
