It is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza but with some differences.
Teaser image reveals differentiating bits like a Toyota front grille.
Feature highlights could include touchscreen infotainment, multi-info display, and keyless entry with push-button start.
Likely to be powered by the Vitara Brezza’s 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine alongside its transmission options.
It will rival the Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the upcoming Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
Toyota India has officially dropped the first teaser image of its upcoming sub-4 metre SUV, the Urban Cruiser which is slated to launch in India around the festive season. Sources reveal it could be around the second half of September, with official bookings likely to commence in the second half of August.
As is the case with the Glanza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is essentially a rebadged Vitara Brezza and will share major design elements with the Maruti. But the differences between the two sub-4m SUVs will be more apparent judging from the teaser image. The most visible change is at the front with a traditional Toyota grille. While the wheels are heavily disguised, it looks similar to the Brezza with only a rebadge likely. Expect a different set of tail lamps and interior theme for further distinction.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will most likely share features like a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multi-info display, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Safety equipment could comprise dual airbags, rear parking sensors with a rearview camera, and ABS with EBD.

Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser will most likely share the Brezza’s 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. This petrol mill makes 104PS of power and 138Nm of torque. Expect the Urban Cruiser’s petrol engine to be paired with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter like the Brezza.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser is likely to retail from the Rs 8-lakh mark, which is around Rs 65,000 more than the Vitara Brezza. The Urban Cruiser will not only take on its Maruti counterpart but also the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon as well as the upcoming Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
