The main talking point is the addition of SharePlay in CarPlay so you don’t have to share your phone with anyone else

Apple’s WWDC is always an exciting event to look out for, where the tech giant gives us a preview of its next-gen operating system, usually with plenty of additions and new features. And while giving a glimpse of its new iOS 17, Apple also showcased three new features that will be useful for car owners.

Let’s take a closer look at what they are:

SharePlay In CarPlay

SharePlay is a feature where you can share your playlist, TV shows, and movies with your friends so they can watch the content on their own phone. Now, this feature has been implemented in Apple CarPlay so your friends or family travelling with you can control the music from their own iPhone. So basically, you don’t have to share your phone to change music as privacy matters a lot for Apple.

Real time Charging Station Availability

An extremely useful feature for EV owners, it uses Apple Maps to pull out all the nearby charging stations, along with  real-time availability. So if a charging station is full, it will show you the closest charger that’s free so you can top up the battery there.

This feature allows you to download a specific section of maps and use directions without the need of a mobile network. This feature is very useful if you’re planning a road trip where you can use directions offline, especially where mobile signal is a luxury. That said, Apple is late to the party as this is already offered on Google maps.

Moreover, while the first feature should be available globally considering CarPlay’s popularity, the last two are expected to be rolled out in select countries first. These are the three new features Apple has primarily included for car owners with the iOS 17.
