2022 Kia Carens First Drive: What Is It?

Kia Motors India has confirmed the Carens’ details, including its trims, dimensions, and powertrain options. The MPV will come in five broad trims: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. Engine options are: 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, 115PS 1.5-litre petrol, and 115PS 1.5-litre diesel.
In this report, we take you through the upcoming MPV’s trim-wise features and powertrain options:
Premium
Available Powertrains: 1.5-litre NA petrol-MT, 1.5-litre diesel-MT, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol-MT
Seating Options: Only 7-seater
The Premium is the entry-level trim, and it gets all the engine options coupled to a manual transmission. Features on offer include:
15-inch steel wheels with wheel cover (1.5-litre petrol)
16-inch steel wheels with wheel cover (1.4-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel)
Black and beige interior with Indigo Blue accents
7.5-inch digitised driver’s display
One-touch electric tumble for second-row seats
Height-adjustable driver’s seat
Power windows
Roof-mounted AC vents for second and third row
12v power socket and five USB-C charging points

The Prestige Plus is the entry-level trim if you want an automatic variant; it gets the choice of a 7-speed DCT with the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. Features on offer include:

If you want a 6-seating Carens, your only choice is the top-of-the-range Luxury Plus. Also, this is the only trim to get the diesel-AT powertrain combine. Features include:

8-speaker Bose sound system
Ventilated front Seats
LED interior lighting for all three rows
Rear door puddle lamps projecting the ‘Kia’ logo

Please Note:
Official bookings for the Kia Carens will begin from January 14, 2022.
Expected launch in the first quarter of 2022.
Will be offered in eight body colours, including three new shades: Sparkling Silver, Imperial Blue, and Moss Brown.
Prices will likely start from Rs 14 lakh
Will rival the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, and select trims of the Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar.
