To stay fresh we take regular haircuts, buy new clothes and add on the latest accessories. The Kiger, in 2022, has done the same. It gets minor cosmetic updates, new interior trim and a few new features. Is this enough to make a positive impact on the overall package?
Not different, but better
The Kiger, on the top variant, offered an option pack, which added some cosmetic flair. That pack has now been made standard on the RXZ variant. Hence, you get a silver skid plate up front which helps with some contrast, and a chrome strip on the tailgate which makes the Kiger look a bit more classy. Other than this, new ‘Turbo’ side decals have been added to the turbo variant, and the alloy wheels now get a red hub cap, which looks cool. However, if Renault had gone the extra mile and painted the brake callipers red too, the wheels would have popped even more.
My favourite addition, however, has been in the form of a paint option. The Kiger now gets a Stealth Black paint, which looks really cool. If you like your cars painted black, you will certainly fall for this. Another paint option added to the portfolio is Mustard -- similar to the one seen on the Triber. With it, the Kiger will be available in a total of seven paint options.
Overall, the Kiger has been a good-looking SUV, and this one looks the same. But if you have an eye for detail, this one will look marginally better.
Sensible Inside
For the interiors, all changes are limited to the top RXZ variant and most for the turbo engine only. Both engine options now get a wireless charger as standard which was part of an additional pack earlier. This makes using the wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay a lot more convenient.
What's exclusive to the turbo variant is the addition of cruise control to the features list. Also, the turbo variants have added flair with a fading red accent on the dashboard and red contrast stitching on the steering, gear shifter, armrest and seats. These changes are all in the right direction and improve the experience of the cabin.
All other features remain the same. So the Kiger continues to offer 8-inch infotainment, six speakers, 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, ambient lights, and drive modes. Kiger has received a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test and gets four airbags for occupant protection.
Kiger | Non-turbo | Turbo |
Engine | 1-litre petrol | 1-litre turbo-petrol |
Cylinders | 3 | 3 |
Power | 72PS | 100PS |
Torque | 96Nm | 152Nm |
Gearbox | 5-speed MT / AMT | 5-speed MT / CVT |
That concludes the changes for the 2022 Renault Kiger. It continues to offer the same two engine options and drive experience. To read more about the way it drives, do check out the turbo vs non-turbo engine comparison.
Verdict
All the changes that the 2022 Kiger has undergone, though subtle, are very sensible. You get marginally better looks, don't have to opt for additional packages to get added features in the top variant, and the interior now looks sportier for the turbo variant. And all of this without any significant price hike over the competent family car package it has always been. If you were considering buying the Kiger in 2022, the deal just got sweeter.
